Is it alright to take the snake out of its hide to handle it or should I wait until it's out in the open to take it out of the cage? Thanks
Ian

It really depends on the snake as some will be a bit grumpy is you take them out of the hide but some won't care at all and will still enjoy being handled. I would give it a try and see how he reacts.

Just move it's hide and take it out. If you wait for it to leave it's hide you may be waiting 'till midnight.

Ok thanks... Earlier today I dumped him out of a hide and he didnt seem to mind. It seems to enjoy coiling up ontop my head.
yea keep in mind that the more you handle your snake the more friendly and less jumpy they get. i have a reverse okeetee now and a vietnamese blue beauty rat snake now,, but i use to have two russian rat snakes, honduran milk, fox, and pythons, and never had a problem with any. my corn was real jumpy when i first got him but i handled him every day and hes still very young now but the calmest thing,,, my new project is my blue beauty, from what i heard when they get bigger they develop attitudes, but also from the people i heard that from they say if you handle it all the time it will tend to be a calm snake so we will see how that goes for me, shes only about 6 weeks old right now and i try to hold her all the time, hopefulyl she'll turn out like the rest,,,
best of luck with your snakes!!
All four snakes that i've had were easier to handle if you picked up the hide. If they were outside they're more active and tend to run away it was hard at first to pick them up like this but with practice it is very easy now but i would suggest trying to pick them up when they're less active and resting under their hide.
