Heating...

PhunkeyPhish Sep 26, 2005 05:11 PM

Hello, I'm having some issues with heating. I'm using a heat pad at one end and can get the region 85-87 by putting a layer of aspen between the glass bottom and the cardboard bottom of the hide box. However, the cool zone is staying at about 79. I'm trying to see how keeping the fluorescent light off during the day and keeping the actual room cooler goes but can anyone suggest other methods? I was thinking of placing a towel over the glass bottom of the aquarium and then adding aspen over that to absorb some of the extra heat. The snake seems to be doing well though. It moves back and forth between the cool zone and warm zone throughout the day. It usually goes straight to the heated side after i handle it too and stays there for a while to heat up... so i know its not too hot. My main concern is the cool zone...
Thanks
Ian
ps its a 20 gallon tank.

what i usually do is put a few layers of paper towel down under the aspen bedding. this will keep the snake from burning itself when it burrows under the substrate.
