candb Sep 26, 2005 07:03 PM

I have recently aquired a baby scarlet which i thought was a scarlet king but isnt, it has a white underbelly. Ive red all the scarlet post on here and the information helped alot but he wont take whipped chicken eggs. There are alot of anole eggs at my work ill try to collect some for him but they may be a tad to big. Any other information would be appricieated. Thanks.
Heres some pics( sorry bout the quality )

I can't be positive from that picture, but it looks like that could still be a hatchling scarlet kingsnake (a focused pic of the head would help).

Even though the field guides use the white belly as a distinguishing characters, I have personally caught a few Scarlet Kings with white bellies. You can't always use that characteristic. The heads look different, even at a small size.

One easy way to tell would be to offer it a small ground skink. Scarlet kings will wolf these down usually.

Thats what i thought at first but i was told it wasnt by a few people, the belly is more whitish and from some pictures i researched its a scarlet snake.

I have raised a few. All kinds of Skinks and small Dekay Brown snakes were taken. Never fed any of mine egg. I have known several who did so and one who got his to accept egg soaked pinkies.
