hlgirly Sep 26, 2005 08:07 PM

I just rescued a baby iguana from a tiny ma and pa shop where it was housed with nile monitor!!! How stupid are people??? The monitor had no food or water and was eating the baby alive by its head! It broke my heart so now i have a teeny baby who is extremely malnurioused and dehydrated. every bone in his tiny body is protuding out and his eyes are sunken, he has multiple laserations and is missing the end of a toe. He just devoured a tiny amount of collared greens..should i feed his gradually or let him gorge to his liking? He hasnt drank but it frenzied when he even sees a bit of greens...any suggestions will be appreciated
thx,
Ash

Hi!
I am proud of you,for rescuing that poor baby ig!If I whould have caught those peole all he** whould have broke loose on them!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways..I whould leave food in there all the time..Remeber to change it out everyday though..What size cage do you have?Lighting?Mist the baby a few times a day..That will help with the humidity and it should encourage the baby to drink.

I feed my iggy "Kiwi" this everyday.
Collard,mustard,dandelion,turnip greens
Acorn squash"Shredded"No seeds
mango(once a week)
green beans
parsnips
argula
watercress
canolope(once a week)

I want you to look at this link..It is the Ig den green iguana diet.I heard it works really good on iguanas that have lost alot of weight.

Poor little guy! He must have been so traumatized! Just keep offering him greens and spray them good with water. He'll get plenty of moisture that way. Get him under some good heat and UVB bulbs asap and definitely get him to the vet soon. Keep us posted. JN

the Dept of Agriculture in your area and make a complaint.
This agency regulates all petstores. I have managed to shut
2 down in my area where the conditions were terrible and
no food or water was supplied.

The fact that the baby is eating is wonderful. My immediate
concern is dehydration. Add water directly to the greens
so he gets enough. Also I would soak at least once/day for
a week or so. This also helps with dehydration. Also, make
sure that the temps are perfect and keep the humidity up.
Once he is regaining his health you don't have to follow this
regiment so strictly.

Please post with any other questions and keep us updated.
Along with the collard greens, mix some turnip greens. This
little green guy owes you big time
