adequate UVB output?

splinter Sep 26, 2005 08:08 PM

Hi there,
not sure if I'm posting in the right place or not. I tried searching and didn't find an answer, only pointed to other sites or threads debating the necessity of UV. so please forgive me if this question has already been answered.
Anyway, I just got my hands on several brand new coralife 50/50 (6000K "full spectrum"/actinic), and I was wondering whether they would give off any/enough UVB for my turtles.
even the specs couldn't give me much info. has anyone checked it out?

thanks

I would say that it is not good enough for a turtle. From the research I have done I found that the highest rated bulb for UVB output is from zoo med. I have read that anything that says full spectrum isnt the same as a UVB bulb. The intensity and the distance that the UVB lasts is very poor. I had looked into the full spectrum bulbs at menards, but found out that the UVB output is very minimal. Sorry, but that is all the information I have.

thank you so much! I thought I would save a bit on those expen$ive UV bulbs... I guess I'll use 'em for my fish tank, I hear they're great for planted aquariums, etc.
