LOST RAINBOW BOA....

carl3 Sep 26, 2005 08:21 PM

Hi! I wanted to seek some advice since I've just about dried my brain out thinking of where else to look. My 5.5 foot 2002 male BRB has escaped due to a fluke error with a hired helper not securing his enclosure. He is not friendly AND had just eaten a rat about 8 days ago. I have a large custom reptile room in my basement that is virtually escape proof but I'm thinking he somehow got out of the room itself. I have torn my entire house apart and upside-down looking for this treasured snake. While I have over 120 snakes, I only have a single pair of BRB's and this upcoming spring would've been their first breeding. I was extremely excited and now I cannot even think about anything else all day long except finding this snake. And while I've had one or two other escapes in my 10 plus years in this hobby, I've always found the snakes (which were colubrids).

Where do I look for a BRB? What would be his most likely move while on the loose? He is a big snake...I'm just so upset about the fact that he's gone and surprised that I'm not quickly finding him given his larger size. Please offer any constructive help/advice you can think of. Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Jason

Keeping lots of snakes, I'm sure you've been through the list of places to look. I know that whenever my BRBs get out I find them wedged behind large, heavy, hard to move furniture. Just imagine the hardest place for you to get to. That's where I would look first. Good luck. Let us know when he turns up.

Jason,
...When mine escape they almost always go into the closest small hiding place they can find. They will get into places that you think are too small for them.

Thanks Jeff (and everyone else). I've looked everywhere but there are too many spots I can't get into to look for him. I have some rodents out to hopefully lure him out of wherever he is. I am also using the old toothpick trick....toothpicks forming a perimeter that if he crosses, I'll know b/c he'll move the toothpicks.

Here is a pic of him. I really miss him. I'll keep everyone posted as to my search status.

a Timberland boot. I guess that he was jealous that we had feet and he didn't... Or maybe it was that he is a nature lover and wanted to go hiking outside. It was definitely the last place that we looked.

I had one get out earlier this year....found her in the enclosure stand next to hers. I had looked there several times prior to finding her and think she made some rounds before coming back. Must have been close to a week before I found her.

wow, unbelievable that you should post this....my BRB went missing tonight, after escaping his feeding tank! Ive had a few lizards escape, but they are creatures of habit, and most of the time, we have found them in the same few spots. Not sure how to go about finding my BRB though
