Gover and Thor update..

artgeckko Sep 26, 2005 08:53 PM

I t has taken me a while to get my act tigether and get some pictures of Gover after his recovery from blister disease?
Thor who has also contracted this disease still is suffering. His prognosis is mot very good. This disease has seriously jeopardized his immune system and secondary infections have really not responded well to antibiotics. Of course I will not give up. The costs are incredibly high, but hopefully they will not be in vain.
Grover has recovered very well ffrom his disease and has added another inch to his already massive scale.
He is a fraction under 25"
Here are some photos to demonstrate the scarring from the disease.

Will keep you posted on Thor's progress.

glad to see they are better!
I just experienced this with a female ornatus 4 days ago, thankfully its stop and healing now.
It’s the first time I see this diseases elsewhere then on belly, this why I wasn’t sure about it.

Rgds

Hello-
Was your suffering from blister disease?
You looks very different that the symptoms that mine had.
I would say from looking at yours that a cagemate had done that damage. Not making aqcusations, just an observation.
I do not see the "blisters"....is this post blisters?
Mine never had blisters on the belly at all...on the sides and the dorsal region which then sheds to show the scarring.

That looks aweful! Poor guys, I really hope Thor pulls through for you. Do you know what causes it, preventative measures, etc? I don't have a uro, but they are definately on my someday list

Hey Alice-
It appears to be a bacterial infection involving excess humidity and fecal matter . I say this with respect to myself being very good about cleaning the cages daily with the shopvac to remove feces.
Uros for the most part are very easy to care for, I have just had some kind of cross contamination that has really cause great illness on two animals. Not to mention very expensive vet bills!!!!!!!

I definitely reccommend them. The really tame ones are incredible pets...can really have doglike personalities and interesting characteristics. I applaud you on ready the post even when you do not have a Uro!!!!
This is an incredible resource for all uro keepers!!!!

I am very glad Gover pulled through ok, I will keep Thor in my thoughts. It is so hard when they are sick, just like having little kids.

Hang in there!

Thanks and thanks for being such a cool moderator.
I think he is in a very bad way. I'm bummed that I did not move faster on this issue.
The blisters are definitly clearing up but his demeanor seems so off. The weird thing is that his eyes are very bright for such a sick animal. For anybody who has helped sick animals, the eyes tell such a big story. So that gives me some hope. An occasional tail whip also gives me hope --even if it hurts!
I took some pictures of him basking outside during the recent heatspell- Sunlight can do wonders ...but they are truly not happy pictures...just took them for education reasons.
Hope and prayers are definitely welcome.
Give Cleo my best.
Ed

But there is nothing like those bright sparkly expressive eyes, full of life, lets hope Thors SPARKLE for a good long time yet!
