How much is he worth?

Ianator Sep 27, 2005 09:59 AM

I have a male ball Python that is almost 3 years old. He eats great and is about 2-3 feet long. I bought him at a local pet store so I don't think he is anything special. there is a pet store in my city here that might want to buy him but I have no idea how much he is worth, and I don't want to be taken advantage of so if someone could give me a price quote that would be awesome. I might be able to get a picture of him up too.
any help wuold be great! Thanks,
Ian

Unless he is something unusual (photos), the pet store would probably sell him for around $100-$150 retail. Expect the pet store to want a profit.

i work in a pet shop over here in the uk, we sell adult animals, approximatly 4.5 feet in length and coke can thickness (irregardless of sex) for 120 GBP ($212).
as for what we pay, this has to be subtracted off the charge for things like wages/overheads/rent etc. as well as then needing to make a prefit ontop.
we usually pay no more than £65 GBP ($114) for these animals.
you have to take into account the UK market on these animals though, over here we do not get many royals in at adult size, so when we do the prices are bumped RIGHT UP.
over stateside, they seem to be very common, so you wouldnt get as higher price as someone over here would.

but this is just my 20p worth

It depends on where you are at - there aren't a lot of petstores in my area that will take adults - some will take babies cause babies sell fast. If you find a reptile store that will take it your looking at $20-$40 simply because there just isn't a big need for adult males - it's hard for them to recoup that money.

i think i have literally watched pythons grow in some petshops, where they have over ordered snakes...... one pet shop here in town has a burm that has been there for 12 years..... another petshop had one who outlived their business, he was there the day they closed, moved on to another shop, then to a place out of town...... kind of sad when you think about it.

Don't see many adults around here but the pet stores here sell baby BP's for $300.00 or more, and those are CH. Dumb - dumb - dumb - dumb, at least anyone who would buy them is

Is make sure it's a male.....

My 1st BP was given as a male, after awhile I decided to get into morphs, & I gave him away to a good home..... I just found out a couple weeks ago that they took him to the vet & guess what they found out?
He's a she.....
I just assumed the guy that gave her to me knew the sex when he told me she was a male......
So I gave away a 4 foot female....

Such is life

I am alomost 100% sure he is a male, he has those little Claw things and I was told that means he's a male. could be wrong though.

Trying to sex by spurs only is not reliable. You should be able to find someone near you that can either pop or probe it for you. I too would find out if it is female or not. That will make quite a difference as to how much you can sell it for.

most shops..$30 to $50..........to you

some shops won't pay anything...they know when you get sick of trying to sell him you'll bring him in and give him to them

check and make sure it's not a girl

I'd say $50.......but it's up to you ,the buyer and the area.....

I got a couple HUGE males that gave me hundreds of babies and I'd give them away to the right home.......they weigh like 8 to 10 pounds I bet....5 foot plus...15 years old and maybe 10 to 12 years old?........

.........have fun......you'll never get the money you spent for food back

males and females have spurs by the way
