when i kept paddletail newts i had them fully aquatic. they are relatively common, although not necessarily in evry pet shop you walk into. the only other thing that comes to mind is an axolotl, but they are relatively rare.

Axolotls are far from rare. I've got 8 of them myself!

i have had a bunch myself, but they are still rare since you cant just walk into a pet shop and find them usually, or even get them special ordered for you. impossible to find and rare are very different. if they are rare than they are hard to find but some people have them. to those people they are not rare because they see them everyday. impossible to find is what it sounds liek you are defining as rare. most people dont even know what an axolotl is, that is pretty rare in my book.

You go to the wrong pet shops. Axolotls are probably the most common animal in the pet trade, second to maybe wild-caught C. orientalis.

out of all the pet shops i go to, and i go to any that i see, i have never seen any axolotls except for the one that i sold to that pet shop. thats great if you can find them , they are great pets and easy to care for. there just not common around me. im in northern VA, where are you?

People do put firebellies into fish tanks (often at the mistaken advice of pet shops), but they rarely live long. The problem is that a sustained high temperature (over 72F) isn't good for them. Also, they do like some places to climb out of the water. Also, fish will sometimes harrass them or eat their food. Overall, not a great arrangement for long-term health the newts.
