For you Bothrops fans... Newborn Bothrops venezuelensis

SnakesAndStuff Sep 27, 2005 11:49 AM

I'm not a great photographer by any means, but I thought I'd share with you a few snapshots that I took of some week old Bothrops venezuelensis that I acquired from Randal Berry. I don't see these posted too horribly often so I thought I'd share them with you. One has already eaten a scented pink and the other has shown interest in food. They're great little snakes, but they sure don't stay this size for long! Gotta love the Bothrops.

..definitely one of the nicest lanceheads. I posted pics of my adult females some weeks ago. Actually, though, they don't grow as fast as some of the other lanceheads. I've found the same for B. neuweidi. B. asper grows like a weed, as do, B. alternatus in experience.

Yeah, they do get even better looking as they get older. Randal has a trio of adults and they're all awesome animals... He had 25 babies born from one female last week!

...just start them on tiny anoles. I've had a dozen or so that I've started that way if they didn't take pinks. If they did take pinks, there was no scenting needed. Also, peepers work.

Randal, if you're out there....are your snakes unrelated to mine? You didn't get them from me in the first shipment 3 years ago did you?

Matt,
No, I didn't get these from you.
Did you breed yours and have offspring, or export babies?
I have another gravid female that should drop any day. Also, I hope to have Bothrops moojeni and B. caribaeus in the near future.(Definetly moojeni next yr.)
What bothrops species have you bred this year or in the past? Just curious.
Important series this weekend! Go Yanks!!

I've gotten quite a few venezuelensis in from Costa Rica, so I couldn't recall if you'd gotten any in 2002.

I had aspers, year before last. Then I separated the females from the male. I've had courtship with alternatus but no success yet. Next year will be my first try with B. neuwiedi bolivianus(mattograssoensis) and B. n. pubescens.

Keep me posted on the moojeni and carribaeus!!! I saw the moojeni that Cincy zoo has and just drooled. Also drooled over their erythromelas!!!!

I live in Cinci and I like to go study up at the zoo for a change of pace. They do have some amazing lanceheads and I always spend some time drooling over them as well. I especially like the alternatus they have right now...
