Importance of humid hides

loril Sep 27, 2005 05:30 PM

I was wondering how many think it's necessary to have a humid hide in the enclosure. Most research says to supply one but some also say you can mist the tank on occasion to keep the humidity up in order to assist in the proper shedding process. I have one in with my female now but with it being only a 10 gal, it takes up quite bit of floor space.

In my opinion it is very important. If floorspace is a problem get a larger tank. My smallest tank is a 15 gal long, plenty of room even in it for the hides.

It depends on the overall humidity in the cage. Leos do well in a moderately humid viv, around 40%. My cage has been at this level of humidity since I brought her home, a year now, and she sheds completely without any problems. If you live in a dry climate you will need to provide a humid hide.
