need help with sulcatta

tsmik2 Sep 27, 2005 09:18 PM

I have a six year old sulcatta tortoise and i live in MIchigan. IN the late spring til early fall he stays outside in my back yard which is large and fenced in. While outside he eats lots of grass. I noticed his fecal matter is actually soilid grass rolls which is easy to clean up. IN winter he stays in a horse trough in my basement 8 ft by 3 ft. last few winters I have been feeding him letuces and other succulant foods which leads to wet messy fecal matter. Id like to find a food that would render his fecal matter back to a grassy dry type substance I can easily clean up. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ALso I have used reptibark for the floor substrate but it expensive. Any cheaper suggestions would be nice

Get a couple bales of Bermuda or Orchard hay and use that as a substrate. It makes excellent beddng and great feed.
