heffner2212 Sep 28, 2005 02:37 AM

Ok well my boa is 2 ft long...1/2inch giurth. I give him a hopper mouse every 5 days....is that good...i was thinking of a adult mouse 1x a week but thats too big isnt it? Any way 3 questions

1. what and how often should I feed her
2. My basking spot is 95 what should the other end be? its usually around 77-81
3. I have had a male and female mouse together now for 3 weeks. The female is getting alot chubbier and round...Is she pregneant? Also if she is think its ok to keep themale with her...will she have a good litter?

thanks so much for your help

Mike

MIke-

It should be okay to keep your mice together. Although, their first litter may get eaten by the female. Mice tend to eat their young if they are nervous but alot of minne in the past eat their first borns. If they do it's no big deal. As far as your temps they are okay but I would probably bring the hot side down to 87-90. 95 isn't necesary and that will cool the whole cage down and allow your snake to have acces to more of the cage. It's probably not utilizing the hot spot very much, right? Hope this helps.

I would feed it a young mouse every week.

Feeding - IMO, a hopper mouse is to small, my newborn baby Brazilian Rainbow Boas take down hoppers at birth, should be more like a small weaned mouse.

Birth - 1 week = pinkie
1 week - 2 week = fuzzie
2 week - 3 week = hopper
3 week - 4 week = weanling

Mouse breeding, it can go both ways, typically I don't have a problem with the litter if the female stays with the male. I normally don't do that though. I like to control my production so I don't have too much and have the various sizes so I remove the females prior to them giving birth. They cen get pregnant only a day or two after giving birth so you could have a second litter coming real soon. I've heard larger breeding facilities just have various colonies and remove whatever babies they need for orders. Fairly easy to tell what they are just by looking at them....pink/fuzzie/hopper/weanling.
