Acrochordus javanicus

Siegi Sep 28, 2005 10:17 AM

I bought a baby A.javanicus.
She eats very well first I`ve fed her with live beta splendens but now she eats dead fish. She is farm born in Malaysia(Leather-Farm).
Does anyone have experiences with this weird looking kind of boids?
Please let me know.

Greetings from Germany.

Thanks.

if your going to feed dead fish, make sure you freeze them alive or shortly after death. Many fish like goldfish have an enzyme in their gut that breaks down vitamin B,Thiamenase I think it's called, soon after death the enzyme goes to work destroying all the vitamin B in the fish, the result of eating nothing but dead fish is a vitamin B deficiency. To stop the enzyme, you can feed live and the digestive process will quickly neutralize the enzyme or you can fresh freeze and the freezing will denature the enzyme and neutralize it.

Boids they are not my friend Achrochorus is its only family acrochodae (not colubrid or boid). Please re ad read my TTO messages regarding this species and the follow ups regarding my research on the "asian syndrom" that plagues this animal in captivity. My acro is approaching 1 year in captivity, wild caught, and my melafix treatment has worked wonders. I would definetly read my postinge below and follow along. Please keep us up to date so as a group we can aid each others research on how to successfully maintain this difficult animal. Whenever something comes up, keep us posted, that way we can work together. Good luck and have fun.

How is you acro doing? Is it still feeding. Any white spot? What type of filtration are you using, and what temp are you keeping it at?
