New Cape Gopher owner

ShadowDawn Sep 28, 2005 02:36 PM

Hi all!

I've just received my very first snake, a young (baby?) cape gopher. He's about 1 1/2 feet long. I know some very basic stuff from the reptile store (Scales N Tails, in Northglenn, CO). Does anyone have any specific advice? Or any good resourses for cape gophers (websites, books, etc.)?

He's still pretty shy around me, and hides in his hole most of the time. I'd like to socialize with him more, but I'm afraid to force him out of hiding in case I hurt/scare him. Any thoughts?

Please help. Thanks!
ShadowDawn

LOL! Mostly, he seems fine, but if I scare him, he'll take a bite at me. He just doesn't understand the fact that he has no teeth. The bite's just not very impressive.

There is care sheet/info article on Capes on the Care Sheets/FAQ/Features page(se link at top of page). Otherwise, give it a temp range of 75 to 83, give it modest sized meals, a hide(sounds like you already have that), and it should do fine.
