WRTV (Indianapolis, Indiana) 27 September 05 Lizard Larceny Captured On Video, Police Say
Carmel, Ind.: Puff, the bearded dragon, should be living in a pet shop. Instead, the 22-inch-long lizard with a value of up to $300 is missing after being stolen by a woman over the weekend, police say.
Authorities said surveillance video shows the woman taking the lizard from the Pet Jungle in Carmel on Sunday.
Police said they believe the same woman visited a Mr. Pet store near the intersection of 86th Street and Ditch Road in Indianapolis. Authorities said surveillance video there shows her buying a parakeet and a 20-gallon aquarium -- large enough for the lizard.
Investigators weren't sure Monday as to why the lizard was stolen, RTV6's Derrik Thomas reported.
The lizard theft had Hamilton County sheriff's Deputy Jeff Wright shaking his head.
"It would have to be the first one I've investigated in the 13 years I've been (working)," Wright said. "A bearded dragon -- I've never run come across anybody going into a pet store and stealing something like that."
Police said the woman had short hair and a large tattoo -- depicting two hands positioned in a praying manner -- on her right shoulder.
Authorities said anyone with information on the woman's identity can call the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department.
