rope lights?

UAWPrez Sep 28, 2005 10:10 PM

Any ideas for lighting racks? I've heard someone mention those rope lights, any ideas on how to use them?

I just weaved it back and forth behind the tubs. I used the connectors that came with the light and just nailed it into the back of the rack. I then covered the whole thing with Reflectix insulation.

If you look at the picture below you can see both the rope light and the Reflectix on the melamine sweater box rack in the lower left. I did the same thing for the large rack on the right.

Adds more heat than I expected.

I found mine at Lowes, but I see them at most hardware stores, etc. I don't know much about the difference among brands.

If you're only providing light then go with a low wattage per foot and skip the Reflectix. If you need a bit of supplemental heat then pay more attention to wattage and use the Reflectix.

I have one of those metal rack systems and keep my glass cages on it I read about the rope light and found it is cheaper for an 18 footer than a smaller one. I heat all but 2 of my snake cages with it on theis rack as they have heat mats from previous to the rope light. IT works great and does produce a lot of heat. IF you are looking to light it I use a plant light and have it aimed at it and it works perfect without a lot of lights and too much heat. I love the rope light and need some more. I got mine a a hardware store after christmas which case it is about a dollar or 2 instead of 8-10. I love sales.
