I FIND THE BEST BULBS ARE STANDARD LIGHT BULBS THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED ON A REGULAR BASIS BECAUSE HEAT BULBS DONT LAST LONG AND WHAT A DRAGON NEEDS IS HIS SAND BELOW THE LAMP 100 TO 105 DEGREE

light bulb......a standard light bulb contains -0- UVB.

IF you do not have your dragon under one, please read up on them or supplement him with calcium with D3 regularly.. they need one of the other or will NOT survive

about your last sentence, do you mean that if i just supplement my dragon with calcium and D3 and take him outside regularily i don't need a reptisun 5.0?????????? thanx in advance

Some breeders and individuals are raising bearded dragons with only bright light intensity, good balance diets and supplements with Calcium /w D3.

This is not something I have done, but I do acknowledge the fact that there are others that do it and report no difference in the CAh levels of the dragons.

My concern and questions have been that other people that have looked into it note, the dragons are smaller in size or grow slower than others under UVB producing lights or natural sun

Another BIG factor is that the animals must have a full rich diet of greens, vegetables and REGULAR supplements of Calcium with D3 and the average person will not be that cautious and regular with proper diet and supplement.

In my personal experience (and this is just that, what I have seen personally)Is that people that were told this and claimed to followed it, have dragons that are significantly smaller in size and less bone density. Which tells me one of two things...... they did not supplement and proper diet the animals or it did not work.

DRAGONS DUE NEED A HIGH LEVEL OF CALCIUM I COAT MY CRICKETS WITH PURE CALCIUM EVERY FEEDING D3 IS A GOOD SUPPLEMENT AND THEY NEED THIS SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK BUT MUST D3 WITH CALCIUM DOES NOT CARRY ENOUGH CALCIUM FOR A HIGH LEVEL OF CALCIUM YOUR DRAGON NEEDS.BUT MUST IMPORTANT IS THE UVB LIGHT I USE LUMICHROME 1XX OR REPTI GLO 8.0 FLUORRSCENT LAMPS ANY UVB LAMP IS GOOD BUT THE HEALTHYS DRAGON ARE RAISED ON THE HIGHER LEVEL OF UVB RAYS.MY DRAGONS GET UVB FROM THE TIME THEY ARE HATCHED

I most definitely recommend Mercury Vapour bulbs.... We've got 13 beardies right now and we use them exclusively on all our guys.

The exposure they get from mercury vapour bulbs most certainly shows through their colour, appetite, acivity level, and general hardiness.

Whether you go with a spot or a flood all depends on the size of the enclosure you're attempting to heat. Spots are good for concentrating a lot of heat & UVB into a small area. The floods are better for covering a wide area.

We use 160Watt floods on our 65g tanks, and similarly sized enclosures. For smaller enclosures, we go with 100Watt spots.
