Babie feeding problems question.

bestballsaround Sep 28, 2005 11:10 PM

I am having a hard time tring to get two clutchs to eat.
They were born 7/15. I have tried mice hopper, pinks, and rat pinks and fuzzys with no luck. Anyone have any tricks or hints I can try..? Is smell/sent play a big part? I can only get mice from the same place and wonder if its there mice. I had the same problem with my first clutch and a friend brought me some mice and the whole clutch ate. But he dose not have any to sell.
Help any info would be great.

Thanks!!

You feeding live or frsh prekilled hoppers/fuzzies? I've heard of some people using chicken broth to scent the mice, umm, using a dead gerbil to rub the mice with to scent of their native prey/food item ( actually it's the gerboa, but gerbils are the same ) I think you got it right when you said it has something to do with the mice your offering, my Ball's really picky, the store I buy feeders from switched suppliers and he wanted nothing to do with first two or three I offered him. Are the snakes loosing any weight with not eating?? They might be chilling on they're yolk sack ( wouldn't think it'd take that long for them to start eating ) Very interesting!!

Yes I have tried everything. Still going nuts there down from 62-80gr to 50-44gr so yea. I tried force feeding 3 of the worse ones they kept it down and also the 2nd but still have no intrest in anything. The other clutchs are already at 160gr this it the first time I have had to deal with any thing like this. Its making me depressed.

OK, are you keeping these "non-eaters" by themselves or any where near each other?? There could be a bug floating around. Have the feces tested along with the snakes. As much as a pain as it is, you need to quarantine them individually probably. Check with the local reptile vet for a recommended liquid diet for the little guys. Let me know what the vet says.

Did you try any of the other tricks we suggested the last time you asked this question? Definately time to start assist feeing them.
