Bowel Movement

Sankofa Sep 29, 2005 08:06 AM

I've had my borneo for four weeks, and it has eaten each week(small mice); however, it has only had one bowel movement. It seems fine. It's not bulging at the tail like snakes usually are when they're costipated. Temps: 82F-90F Humidity: 70%

Its perfectly normal. Bloods have one of the slowest metabolizms in the reptile world. They can sometimes go up to a couple of months without a bowel movement. Nothing to be worried about.

I've had my snake a year, and I think I've cleaned up a mess in the cage 4-5 times...

Okay, so after a feeding, my blood won't be defecating for awhile? I know with all my other snakes I waited 3-5 days after feeding for them to go and then resumed handling, as I didn't want regurgitation. With a bloods and such a slow metabolism do I wait until defecation or just give it a few days to settle?

After feeding, you should wait at least 24 hours before handling. I usually feed in the evening, leave them alone all the next day, but the day after is safe to handle them. I've never had a snake regurge. -chris-
