trying to get my JCP

Megamada Sep 29, 2005 09:47 AM

I got my jcp rat fuzzies like what she was used to and i didnt handle her first but she refused it again. How long should i let her settle in before you think she will start to eat? Also should i worry about refreezing my rat?

I'd put her in her cage and leave her totally alone for at least a week, maybe two, maybe even put a sheet over her cage to give her privacy, to let her get used to her new home. Then offer her the food item again. Get her to eat twice, then begin handling her again. I don't know about refreezing the rat, I've never tried it, but it doesn't sound too good.

Oh, one other thing. My young ones always eat from a perch, if you don't have one, you might consider providing one. Before I got the naturalistic branches, I just use a dowel (a little thicker than a broom handle) and a couple curtain rod hangers to mount it in the cage. It worked well.

Has she eaten for you at all since you got her? If not I would follow the advice of the other post and leave her alone for a week or two. You really don't want to stress her out more by offering food to often. Get her a perch and a few places she can hide one on the warm side one on the cool side. just so she can hide and feel secure. How big of a cage do you have her in?

if she is going into a shedding faze. some snakes won't eat during that time. just a thought.
