Wow did you guys see what they found in New Orleans ?? OT

koky6869 Sep 29, 2005 09:57 AM

This crocodile was found in New Orleans swimming down the street. 21 FT

long, 4,500 lbs, around 80 years old minimum.
Specialists said that he was looking to eat humans because he was too old to catch animals. This crocodile was killed by the army last Sunday at 3:00pm, currently he is in the freezer at the Azur hotel. The contents of it's stomach will be analyzed this Friday at 2:30pm.

All i have to say is that whoever these "SPECIALISTS" were , didnt know a damn thing about crocs. And it is a travesty to of killed such an incredible animal

I was so freaking mad when I seen that, I had to take a deep breath before I posted. I have my opinion on the idiots that killed him, but I will try to refrain. A fresh water Croc, that size is almost unheard of and it is a total waste, I am not saying that they neede to let it stay swimming in the streets, but they could have gotten a trapper to relocate the animal. Experts, " my ass! "..........Johnson Herp

that is not a frsh water croc, it would have to be either a nile or a salt water. i totaly agree with you that they should NOT have killed it. and you are still right in that lengths like that are basicly unheard of. very sad indeed.

I'm as big a herp fan as anyone but it's not like there's a lot of croc trappers left in New Orleans at the moment. The owner of this "pet" is probably either dead or out of state.
The dead bodies are probably a smorg but I don't buy that this wouldn't go after any survivors if it had the chance. I don't deny that there wasn't a machismo factor in shooting it either, but I'm in Canada and not New Orleans so what do I know

after closer inspection, it is definately a Nile. I guess I jumped on the high horse too soon. Regardless, it is sad that the animal is now a suitcase.......Johnson Herp

I'm not a croc expert, but in my opinion this is a salty and the picture was taken in another country. Freshwater crocs do not get that large.

mike_panic Sep 29, 2005 10:18 AM

I agree with Xray. I smell a scam. Its the same type of internet BS that circulated around the web with the photo of the man being cut out of the Reticulated Python in SOUTH AMERICA. In my opinion, its no different then when you see a Burmese Python hanging out of a tree in an alleged amazon setting during a routine TV commercial. These people simply dont do their research, LOL. In some messages they say it is an Alligator.. I guess here in the reptile forums they sharpen their pencils.

... and if it wasn't a hoax there would be little reason to cheer, why add to the tragedy of that storm by killing a100 year-old reptile. If there were any 'experts in attendance' they would point this out.

Is this opinion acceptable to you, John?

Lets, not get into that ordeal again. You almost make it seem like I am Hitler or something? Your opinion, means more to me and I could probably learn more from you, than you could from me. You are my elder in life as well as in this Hobby. We have disagreements, most of the time they are more misunderstandings, but my respect for you does not dwindle, agree or not.........Johnson Herp

This pic is alot older.. I know I saw it around 6 months ago myself and the information that was shown with it back then was more believable.

Those guys are differently dressed from people in new orleans the building structure is different from those of the US. IF this pic is real it's from Africa along the Nile somehere or one of the coastal African estuary where the Saltys are..Yeah that thing was swimming down the streets of New Orleans, haha

I'm no expert but I do mot think there would be any aligators, crocs,etc... swimming in nasty oil, gas, crap envirnment. To add to this, you would have a better chance seeing several hundred aligators than even one croc in LA... Not saying they are not there... Just not here in the numbers like aligators...
Take a look at the people in the photo! Don't you think if the army shot this amazing animal more would be shown on tv and you would see some army personel around!!! LOL
The sad thing is the animal is dead somewhere and that is a shame!
