vet trip - container?

lele Sep 29, 2005 11:12 AM

it just dawned on me that I am not sure the best way to get Darwin to the vet tomorrow. I have cat carriers but they are rather large. Can I just set him up in a box with towel or something (he's 16"? I suppose I should begin acclimating him today?

tips appreciated!
thanks
lele

A box with a towel to line it will work fine. Another thing you could do is put him in a pillow case or snake bag. That is how they are shipped overnight. either would work.
hope this helps

nate

hi Nate - thanks for the tip. I will do the pillow case idea so he feels secure.

It will eliminate most stressed caused by shipping/transporting him. good luck at the vet. And after you build a relationship with your vet you wont have to bring your dragon in. You can just bring a fresh fecal sample in(poo) and they can check it out for around $10-15.

Mine hates the box. He travels on my right shoulder, away from the seat belt and looks out the window.

he began scrambling out of the box so I put him in his favorite spot (my right shoulder) and he stayed there the whole time. I thought the fast movement would freak him out but we were out running errands, too and he stayed there the whole time!

Nathan - Yes, I will be able to just drop off a fecal in the future. This is a new herp vet to me. I have an ARAV vet about 45 minutes away that I used exclusively for Luna, my chameleon (now deceased ). This one, Dr. Norris, is only 10 minutes from my house so for routine stuff (and due to the price of gas!) I will use him; he sees lizards, and owns some. If Darwin has any serious problems I will lilely bring him to my ARAV vet - but hopefully that won't be necessary.

thanks
