Ball python mouth gaping

hotridexx Jul 19, 2003 11:14 PM

Hi,

I have a female ball python and sometime she just opens her mouth for no reason. I don't think that she is hungry because she was fed yesterday. She doesn't leave it open to breathe or to flick her tongue, it's just like a yawn or something, and it is not very often that she does it. Any comments on what it could be, or if it is nothing?

Thanks everyone.

Ball pythons do yawn and from your description it seems that is exactly what he/she is doing... nothing to worry about.

Good luck.

If is its opening its mouth really wide, its just a yawn, but if its GAPING, like you said, it may be somthing to worry about. If its just barely open for a little bit, then I would worry.

If it's a real yawn there's nothing to worry about. Mine does that also very much.

They can also do this a lot after meals sometimes while they are repositioning their jaws, especially after a larger meal.
