It looks like I may need some more breeder females for this season - but I am wondering if I waited too long to get them? I wont be cooling until November/December but do they need to settle in longer than that in order for them to breed well - they would of course be quarantined through settling and cooling then bred Januaryish if they are healthy.

Anyone had problems breeding a newly acquired CBB Females? Or is it not relevant? Depends on the female?

are your 7 males morphs or are they all normals? I doubt they'd all be normals but you don't brag about it in your signature so it's a hard call lol.

LOL - I think my head count may be a bit off - I'm not very good at keeping it up to date.

But sadly I don't have any normal males and my females are spread into three breeding seasons with about 10 that will be ready this year 10 for next year (with anything that doesnt lay this year) and 10 for the following year (plus anything that does lay this year).

I don't want to spread my males too thin but I'd like to get a couple of clutches from each that are ready and that leaves me a couple females short.

Thanks,

i purchased a 1800 gm female this past season in feb. the previous owner kept her outside here in south florida so she had been naturally cycled. after letting her settle in she was bred to a pastel in late march. she gave me 6 perfect eggs of which all hatched with 1 pastel (a female). she is now up to 2600 gm and pounding med rats still. soo yes it can be done as long as the females are healthy. i think the hardest thing to do is find someone parting with breeding females this time of the year. good luck, below is a pic of that female i'm talking about right after laying at 1450gm.

Thats pretty much how it went with my one female this year (got her Feb. bred March/April hatched 8 babies in Aug.) but I picked her up locally instead of having her shipped from somewhere else so I didn't know if that might be a factor too.

IMO if you aquired any good ch or cb adults now you won't have a problem breeding them later this season.

Thanks Steve! I'd just hate to spend $800 plus on a breedable female and have her not cycle or breed. I should have bought earlier when they were going for $250-$300 lol.

Those are the chances you take especially if you have a nice morph to breed it too. Shipping as long as it's not overly stressfull shouldn't be that much of a factor.
I'm moving my store at the present time and I'm not sweating having to move the collection etc.
Are you anywhere near PA? I may be willing to spare some breeder size females ONLY because I'm trying to raise money to open a second store.

Hey, Are we all going to see a weekly "A week in review?...lol
