Problems with my rhac's shedding

Ungaboo Jul 19, 2003 11:45 PM

I have a roughly four month old rhac (named Pope Pius XII) who seems to have had a bit of trouble after his last shed, which occurred a couple of weeks ago. After all this time, he still has a patch of dead skin stuck to him just above his eye. It doesn't seem to bother him, since I haven't seen him licking it to try and get it off. However, I'm concerned about what problems this may pose further down the line, and I want to know what I can do to get it off. I've misted the tank more than usual, and this doesn't seem to help. Unfortunately, he's quite skittish, so he wouldn't take kindly to having me pick the dead skin off with tweezers, and if I did it would have to be against his will, and would probably traumatize him greatly.

What should I do?

I know this has been suggested for bearded dragons, so not completely sure it will work on Cresteds..but you can try putting vegetable oil onto the spot with a Q-tip to see if this helps losing it up.

I would really prefer not to use a Q-tip on Pope, except as a last resort, because he is a spineless little sissy who would probably excommunicate me out of fear and anger. In any case, I don't think that such esoteric measures would be necessary, because the dead skin is much more loosely attached than I made it sound in my last message. It's really just a little strip of dead skin hanging off him just above his eye, though I suppose the base of it is still firmly enough attached that it's stuck around for two weeks.

I'd *really* appreciate some help. I don't want my gecko to be blind with one eye, or to have to hobble around on a little gecko walking stick. What the latter has to do with a piece of dead skin above his eye, I don't know, but I just enjoy the mental image.

Seriously, though, I'm getting really worried. HELP. PLEASE. SOMEONE.
