Advice appreciated!

Hey!
I'm planning on aquiering my very first ballpython morphs! Now I'd be very happy if you could give me some advice. I'm just a poor student so I dont have millions to spend unfortunately.. I'm thinking:
#1. 1.1 het albino and 1.0 pastel
hopefully producing some albino, 66% hets and pastels
#2. 1.0 albino and 0.2-0.3 het albino
hopefully producing albinos and some 100%hets, avoiding the pos.hets..
What do you think? Any answers very much appreciated!

Best regards
Victor, Sweden

Victor,

Sounds like you have a plan and that is the most important part! Make sure you have all of the housing, feeding requirements and expenses established, you probably already do. The I would ask you if you currently have any normal Ball Python females... if you do my answer may change.

If you are starting without any females I would recommend getting the 2-3 Het. Albino females now and wait until next year to purchase an Albino male. That way they should be mature about the same time 24-36 months for the females and you can breed that year producing Albinos and Hets. Make sure you purchase your hets. from a reputable person, and yes a "small breeder" can be reputable!

If you like Pastels better than Albinos, or have older female normal Ball Pythons buy the Pastel male and get into Albinos down the road.

I'm not sure about Sweeden, but the Albinos will hold their value for many years to come in the U.S and the Pastels will drop in value steadily for a while yet.

Have Fun and Good Luck!
