Uromastyx looking to own one

Hawthorn Jul 20, 2003 01:29 AM

I recently saw a Uromastyx for the first time, at a reptile shop. I've been researching (trying to anyways) online. What advice would you give, for those of you who have owned one before? Can anyone recommend good sites for learning about them? Before I decide I want to know a lot about them, I don't want this to be a learn as I go pet experince. That you can do with a hamster, not one of these.

A key piece of advice would be to get one from a reputable breeder. I bought my saharan uro Rico, through doug dix, all i got to see was a picture. But my uro came fat and healthy even though he was a wild caught one. Granted doug kept him for a long time. He ate within a day or two and is a great little guy. you can learn alot of aboiut the different breeds, their temperments and so forth from Deerfernfarms.com, doug dix's site. you can also learn some from these sites: http://members.fortunecity.com/lizardracing/ and http://jason.creager.com/uros.html#overview
Both are great sites. This fourm is also great to ask any uro questions, as most of us have one or more!
God luck they are a great lizard!

uromastyx are wonderful lizards that make great pets, chock full o' personality. just make sure the one you get is healthy. i'd recommend going the extra few bucks to get a nice captive bred from a reputable breeder. i'd check out deer fern farms' website, they have great, detailed care sheets as well as wonderful uros.

good luck.
