Sometimes its easy to figure out its a male, sometimes its not. The problem is, that if you cant prove its a male, it defaults to female. This is a problem because I have seen even adult males probed by several people (all been in snakes for 10 years and very good at it), then popped, and all of them say its female, then later on prove it was a male (by probing or poping). If you can prove its a male, its a male, if not I think its only a female after it lays eggs. It can be hard to prove, and unless you are a professional snake prober, I still wouldnt take 100% assurance. Just my take on it.

doesnt a male have good controll over his uh how would i word it..."excitment" when you go to pop him... right? personally i dont know how to probe snakes, i kinda know how to pop because i used to work at a petstore and in the reptile section of the store there was a guy named Marty.P who i think runs the norht burks hamburg show, he was explaining to me how to pop and he showed me hands on.
but i understand what you are saying.
in most cases when you go to probe, you can tell if its a female if it goes in just a little bit, and a male the stick goes in more farther in?
im no pro to these snakes, im still learning, and having fun. lol
thanks for your post and letting me know that!!!

There are lots of things that can screw up sexing a ball. Males can easily be popped within the first few weeks of hatching - but they soon gain control over the muscles used to invert the hemipenes and this becomes less precise. Also as they grow and gain control of those muscles they can also tighten up the area and prevent the probe from passing smoothly. Simple things like a crooked or bent tail or the probe being of the wrong size can also give you the wrong result. Best way to know for sure (IMHO) is to pop them when they are first hatched or wait for sperm plugs! LOL

And you told everyone on the "other message board" that you sold that snake for $10,000, even posted a picture of the phoney check. What's up with that?

LOL - I dont think we need to worry about that here - whats done is done - now that RDR has proved the IMG isn't genetic - my guess is that kind of price tag won't be hung on a pet that cant reproduce the phenomenon.

This is where those that really love the snake versus those that will pay big money for a nice breeder part ways. Whos going to pay $10K for a pet snake - no matter what trick it can do.
