Blackmilk Behavior

Dryseeker Sep 30, 2005 11:09 PM

Wanted to throw a question out for everyone. I have a awesome 4' male that I've raised from a 03 hatchling. He always exhibited a very calm nature, never biting or any nervous behavior. The last two days he's been a different animal, impossible to hold-he thrashes about violently & even struck at me (with a closed mouth)He has always been a rodent disposal unit & ate today but is still wild as hell-he seems terrified. The only change has been I've added a Texas Indigo to my collection who is housed in a different room. Do you think the smell of my new addition is to blame? Its the only change. I know my snakes personalitys well & this Milk has always been an absolute joy to work with-its scary! Any thoughts or similiar experiences?

My 02 male has always been very docile and calm, but this summer I started taking him outside for some exercise and he started to get VERY flighty. He has never tried to bite me, open mouth or closed though. I continued to take him outside from time to time and now he's back to his calm self.

Thanks for your input-Im baffled by his behavior. Im not sure what to make of it-the only thing different is the addition of my Indigo.

Very odd. I put one in a large cage too early and it musked me(VERY unusual). It's back in the other cage and fine. I have seen other isolated inicidents of otherwise calm snakes getting whacked out. I guess they can get up on the wrong side of the rock like us sometimes.Animals are animals and despite the best training/care can do some unpredictable things.I have ridden horses and passed the same mailbox a hundred times and then one day KABOOM!, like they never ever saw it before and your almost thrown. Go figure....

Your right-animals are animals.Hes been a little better but is still on/off with with his mood swings-they're almost like tantrums. He's still eating like a horse & seems fine in every other way so I'll just keep watching him. Thanks for your input!
