Soon to be parent of some Whites Tree Frogs

flyingdewdew Oct 01, 2005 08:57 AM

Im fixin to get a couple of Whites and I have some questions to anyone who knows....
1st- Do I need to dust crickets with a calcium supplement and a multi vitamin? or just the multi.
2nd- Is 2 whites in a 39gal tall tank OK?
3rd- Is it OK to mix Whites with Red Eye's or Grey?
4th- Should I feed a mixed diet of crickets and mealworms? If so do the worms need to be dusted?
5th- Whats a good cricket food to use?

I'll probably think of more questions after I submit this, but this is a start. Thanks

Hey.. these are my opinions.. many will agree.. some wont. Hope it helps!

1st- Do I need to dust crickets with a calcium supplement and a multi vitamin? or just the multi.
Depends on a couple of things, when they are froglets, I would dust at least with the calcium. As they grow, it also depends on how well the crickets are eating.. if you give them lots of fruits and veggies, it is not as important.

2nd- Is 2 whites in a 39gal tall tank OK?
39Gallons should be more than enough room.

3rd- Is it OK to mix Whites with Red Eye's or Grey?
No.. whites seem to do better in dryer less humid areas with occassional misting where as RETF's love moist damp humid tanks.. Grey's require yet a third and different type of setup. Best thing to do is find some care sheets on the WTF's and go from there.

4th- Should I feed a mixed diet of crickets and mealworms? If so do the worms need to be dusted?
I have heard mixed reviews about the mealworms, so I stay away from them. But I will occassionally through some roach nymphs or flies in to mix the diet up.. most of the time though, frogs get crickets and seem to be happy with it.

5th- Whats a good cricket food to use?
It is not required to buy food specifically for crickets.. you can feed them alot of things you normally get at the groocery anyways. If you have dogs or cats, you can use dry dog/cat food for them.. I soak mine in water to help provide a water source as well. They also do well with lots of veggies and most fruits.
