Sexual Maturity

EdenProject Oct 01, 2005 09:25 AM

I have recently aquired two baby chucks. They are now about 8 months old. I'm currently keeping them in the same tank, but I don't want them to mate (they are "brother and sister". When do chucks become sexually mature? When should I separate them?

Thanks for your advice,

Char

In captivity they are usually ready to rodeo at 3 yrs old, if healthy. I hope to see a few comments on this - I hear inbreeding in reptiles is not as rare as in ---- certain states where there are hills & stills!! It would seem in nature the odds of breeding happening amoung siblings or parent/ offspring are high. Just like certain states with hills & stills!!

Hope to see some more experienced ( and serious) posters soon !!

David
