snakeman365 Oct 01, 2005 09:21 PM

I would like to get some info on breeding. any and all would be appreciated. I have been raising snakes for many years, but I have not done any breeding. Now, I would like to try. I am interested in milk snakes hondurans and nelson's mostly. I would like to know the best times of the year to breed, the winter where I live is not usually cold for very long maybe 3 months. How many time a year can these snakes be breed? I thank all who reply for their knowledge. I will also be looking for a proven pair of snakes age 3 years old, if anyone would know where I could get them it would help me as I have been having a little trouble locating someone with a pair of Hondurans. thak you.

Hi----breeding nelsons or hondurans is not that difficult. with the 3 month winter or colder season you have that should be plenty for suitable brumation. I bred albino nelsons and tri color hondurans last year with only a 2 month brumation from dec15th -feb15th here in south california where the winters arent really to cold. I kept the snakes around 54-63 degrees for that period with no lights on at all. Once the period was over I slowly returned them to there normal temps and after the females shed I placed them with the males. Eggs were laid 3 months latter in semi moist spagnum moss and they took around 80-85 days to hatch. If you wanna email me I will give you a more in depth record sheet which shows the highs and lows each week of brumation as well as incubation temps etc for the nelsoni specifically. I also may be able to help you with finding a adult pair to try and breed yourself before winter arrives. Good Luck--Joe
