Question for those who use tile....

AlteredMind99 Oct 01, 2005 10:19 PM

I have a 20 gallon long tank 30"Lx12'W. I am trying to fit tile to it. At the moment i am trying to find a place that will cut the tile to size for me, but i also need to figure out what size tile and how to configure it all. So i turn to those who do it best....

- What size tiles, and how many tiles do you personally use in your 20gallon tanks?

- do you leave spaces between the tile or fit them snuggly?

- do you put anything b eneath the tile?

Thanks, sorry for the specificness, but my lifestyle is so hectic with work and school and my animals i dont have the time to keep running back and forth with trial and error. It would take me months to set it up! Lol

just use 3 tiles and cut them with a scissor if u get vinyl tiles i use 2 and just cut the top like half an inch and it fits perfect and then the middle u use like half a tile

On the side with the UTH use two tiles stuck together. Since they're the vinyl kind they aren't very thick and they get hot easily.

I've used the vinyl type (before I switched to a rack). You can cut it yourself.... I think I used about 4 and a half tiles for a 20gal long.

Do not use vinyl tile. The vinyl can give off harmful vapors, especially if they are the adhesive kind. Slate tile have much more traction for your Leo as well. Check your post over at the reptile rooms. I think the responses over there are, in general, more appropriate and knowledgable. There was quite an argument over several days time about those vinyl tiles. 99% of the answers argued against the vinyl and for the slate tile.

I had it for over a year without any problems. The geckos had no problem walking around on it either..... I know I'm not the only one who has used it. Also, is there in proof that it gives off harmful fumes? Anyone ever come on here and say their gecko died from the fumes? So far, I haven't seen a single instance where that has happened.
