HELP!!

skyclad Oct 02, 2005 08:15 AM

I just bought a new ETB. I have her in a 10 gallon tank. My Temperature is fine but I can't seem to hold a steady humidity. During the day my temps are 84F with a humidity of 60% and at night my temps are 80F with a humidity of 40%. Yesterday when I got her she was perched on her branch but when I woke up this morning she was on the floor. I don't if that has to do with her being new to the environment or what. In my setup I have a 75watt basking light, cypress mulch, and I have an automatic mister that sprays for 60 seconds every hour. I can't seem to hold the humidity in at all!! I need at least 30% more humidity in there. I understand it is a 10 gallon tank with a screen top but there's got to be something I could use to keep the humidity in. Does any one have any suggestions for me?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Try covering 2/3s of the screen with clear plastic. If you are keeping in an air conditioned environment, remenber that the ac unit usually will drop ambient humidity to 50% or less. The moisture will get sucked right out of that cage. Just make sure that adequate air circulation remains. You might even consider a sterilite or rubbermaid container over a glass tank.

Hi Craig! Hey my name is Craig as well lol. Anyway, I did what you told me to do. I placed Siran wrap over 50% of the screen top and the humidity shot up to 78%. I sent you a few pics of my setup. Now you'll notice in one of the pics my temp is at 90F. The reason for that is that the basking heat lamp is on the same side of the temperature guage. So I would imagine that it is a few degrees cooler on the other side of the tank. So check out the pics and let me know if you see anything wrong with my setup. Thanks alot!!!!

I think it's a great looking setup! See how much time the snake actually spends near the heat lamp....you may not need it at all, unless you are in air conditioning....

Thank you and you're right. I think the lamp is on just for option purpose only. If I shut it off my temp may drop 10 degrees down to 80F. Would that be enough? Well I'm happy just to be in the right ballpark now as far as temp and humidity. Now I could play around with options. Thanks everyone for all your help!!! Here's a pic of her.

Hey Craig,

That's a very beautiful and very healthy looking juvie you have there! If it doesn't paste itself far from the heat lamp all of the time I assume you are ok with it. The ideal temps are in the mid 80's for my aniamls, although 90 isn't out of the question at my place either...
