There is a Bald Eagle in the Tree. The Bald Eagle is our National Bird of the USA.
the Bald Eagle is always appropriate and patriotic on any forum.
This guy was a particularly friendly one at that. He would swoop down and steal your fish that you were trying to reel in. He seem to have a fondness for the Pike.

Actually he was just being a lazy bum. Eagles are known for scavanging if they can get away with it.
The eagle we have is almost fully mature.. still has what looks to be another year before he has all of his 'white' in.

A neighbor of mine has his. He started on Redtail hawks and ended up getting a pair of Harris Hawks. I went with him to an annual meeting of fellow FFL holders and got to see many very cool species in action. It is amazing just how big these guys realy are up close and in person. Especially when they are diving at you and wanting the meat thats in your hand.

We have both state and federal raptor permits for all of our birds of prey. Because of the endangered species status, pretty much any bald eagle kept in captivity permenantly is injured in such a way it can't be released. Our eagle for example is completely missing his right wing - somehow he snapped it off in the wild. We don't know if he got tangled in a tree or if he got mixed up with fishing line or what. He was a fledgling still learning to fly and hunt so the only thing that saved him after the injury was the fact that his parents were still feeding him. He'd been stuck on the ground near the river shoreline injured almost two weeks before he was found and taken to a raptor lic. veterinarian.

I love eagles, well raptors in general. We have a nesting pair of these less than five miles from my house. People actually still shoot these beauties for recreations sake. NOT ON MY WATCH!!!. Thanks for the pic.

Here he is turning around to take another pass at my pike he missed on the first fly by.

Sweet - the only one we get to see in our neck of the woods is the one at our local zoo and it looks to be over fed and has it's wings clipped - doesn't look very majestic - thanks for sharing!!!

More than likely your "overfed and has its wings trimmed" is an injured bird that cannot be released into the wild. The one we have was shot, and is missing half of her left wing. Yeah, she looks like a lumbering oaf when she's moving, but when she's perched she's absolutely beautiful.
You cannot keep a bald eagle in captivity unless there is something wrong with it that prevents its release into the wild.
Your countrymen basically hunted them to the brink of extinction. Funny, highest concentration of them is where I live (in CANADA). If I see less than 5 or 6 a day, something is up. I saw 9 last Friday, including 2 juvies without their white heads.
Hopefully the US learned their lesson. ??
Those canadians and their flapping heads...LOL. Just a little south park line that crossed the mind. PROUD TO BE AMERICAN!!! By the way I see them frequently where I live in AMERICA too! Andy.
Jeff if you have such a problem with Americans get off this forum and get yourself over to kingsnake canada. I have bit my tongue a few time on this forum and others when you were bashing on America and newbies that you knew were Americans. A few years ago when I first started breeding I asked a simple question on another forum and got a completly rude reply from you. Seriously why dont you try and grow up the dude was just showing a pic of Americas National Symbol. You can say you were not trying to bash america but if you werent why not just keep your mouth shut and let the dude show his picture of a beautiful.
So there are more bald eagles in Canada. What do you want Jeff a cookie good for Canada

Will take any unwanted morphs. LOL.
We got lots of those too. With all the treeeees and all up here.

You should use them to wipe all the eagle poop off of your car!
Hahaha.
LOL!
Do they really taste like chicken or are they more like baby seal?

Hunting had nothing to do with their decline. The use of the pesticide DDT caused it. The chemical would wash into the rivers and streams which got into the food supply and the birds eating the contaminated fish, etc. would ultimately show adverse results -- their eggs wound up being thin shelled and often would break when the parents tried to brood. While DDT has been banned for quite some time now in the USA, it's taken years for the birds to even begin recovering.

And its STILL used in some S. American and African countries. CRAZY. The craziest photo I have ever seen was in a National Geographic and showed a guy in a 3rd world country using a DDT container cut in half as a jug to gather DRINKING WATER! Can you believe that! Scary.
All this from a Canadian? Whats your national bird??? Ohhh isn't it the LOON hahaha enough said.
I'm from Mn, that's my homestate bird.

Too bad ignorance isn't poisonous. But then we'd have a bunch of Canadians on the endangered list ;oP
Bald eagles have made a great come back and they are considering taking them off the endangered list. I personally don't think they should be taken off the list. I could possibly agree with it if their numbers grew so much that they were snatching cats and dogs out of peoples yards but otherwise, keep them protected!

With a name like Scrotbelly, it has to be good ;o)
I live in port charlotte, florida and last aug 13th we got hit by a cat 4 hurricane named charley for those who didn't know. Our community was almost destroyed. Everyone felt completely lost with barely any will to go on. sunday, 2 days after the hurricane I walked out of my front door and saw this majestic animal. It seemed to say "everything is going to be OK". after grabbing my camera, I went next door and got my neighbors so we could share this moment together. Everything turned out to be ok after a long rebuilding.

Judging from the size and what appears to be the tail markings it is probably a young red-shouldered hawk or an immature (though smallish) red-tailed hawk.
