At what age can a crestie be sexed?

kimax Oct 02, 2005 06:01 PM

I bought a crestie from a breeder one month ago and forgot to ask when they can be sexed. My crestie is 4 months old and I was just wondering how long it will be till I can get it a friend. It is currently in a 32 gallon setup, so i think I could put one more in there. Also, if it is a female, is it better to get another female? or a male? Also, what about keeping cresties with gargoyles? Thanks for the info!

Hello, cresties can be sexed at about 8 or 9 months of age,you shouldn't put another gecko in with one so little because you don't know the sex, but when you do find out the sex, if it is a male keep it alone because males fight and that can lead to loss of tails and lots of stress ,you can put a female in with him when they are both around 35 grams "breeding size"if you put them in earlier they may breed and it's not good for small geckos to breed because the female will probably give a bad clutch of eggs and can have a sudden drop in calcium wich and lead to all kinds of problems. If it is a female you can put up to two or three together.I've herd of people putting cresties and gargoyles together and everything went fine. Hope I've helped you Good luck.Stephen T.
