a couple of pics

draybar Oct 02, 2005 08:46 PM

A couple of new pics of one of my Bairidis, Sam.
And a nice little grey rat I caught a few days ago.
First one I have seen in this area my entire life.
46 years.

Jimmy, that Grey rat is outstanding. Very nice light Grey color. To me that looks like an excellent White-Oak Phase. And of course there is Sam in the below pic, looking like a million dollars as usual.

Nope not this one.
I have had too many blacks to know this is a true grey. It is actually lighter then the picture shows.
If it darkens, I guarantee it will never darken as much as even the lightest black rats I have caught.
Time will tell.
I will, of course, post pics as it grows.
Remember though, I am pretty good with photoshop so you may never know if it darkens...LOL
just kidding.

LOL the only reason I said that was because that specimen is identical to the black rats here at that age..They will darken in a year so? If you found it in Chattanooga odds are its a black ..in west Tennesse its a gray lol.. but you cant really tell at this age..

ok i was confused, thought i was un-confused, now im just confused again... the rat snack you have in the top pic looks just like the gulf hammock rat i have. is this just a trade term? i have tried to look it up but i havent had too much luck, she does look just like that first one tho. any help to aid me in my confusion would really help.

see Zach, that's why I was surprised to find it.
Like I said, I have found black rats here my entire life...LONG TIME...(46 years)
this isn't a black rat.
The saddles, head and background all say grey.
Since this one is a nice healthy hatchling I will definitely keep it.
Which of course means I will be posting pics as it matures.
We will have make a small wager.
I'll think of something
