Campina Grande Rainbow Boa Babies

Jeff Clark Oct 03, 2005 07:17 AM

....One of my two female Campina Grande Rainbow Boas, Epicrates cenchria asissi gave birth to 5 babies this morning. My adults have a lot of personality. When I open their cages they come straight to me like they want to see what is going on. The mother of these babies kept getting her head up right in front of the camera while I was shooting these PICs. She has a very little bit of striping on the top of her neck. Two of the babies exhibit quite a bit more of this striping.

All of my adult Campina Grandes are around 44 inches long. This is my other gravid female.

Those are really cool. Are those adults CB? I am assuming they are, just curious.

Linda,
...My adult Campina Grande Rainbows were captive bred by Dr. David Fabius in Uraguay. David runs a business called Centro Herpetologico Uraguay. He has been one of the guest speakers at the Daytona Expo several times. The Campina Grandes he produced (two years ago, I think)were imported with their siblings by Amazon Reptile Center in California. AFAIK that is the only time that this subspecies has been brought into the US. There is no mention of this subspecies in the very extensive collections list that used to be maintained by the Slavens. I got two pair of them and Randy got one pair. I am not sure how many were imported but it probably was not enough that any one else besides Randy and I have a pair of them. Depending upon whether Randy's have laid babies this litter of mine may be the first litter ever captive born outside South America.
