Vitamins for Snakes

JohnRowley Jul 20, 2003 10:13 AM

Hello, I just bought some REPTIVITE for my snakes.
Most of the snakes eat f/t rats. I was wondering how to use this product on the rats. Should I sprinkle a little on the rat,or should I inject a vitamin paste into the f/t rats???
Or should I dust part of my rats food with the vitamins to make them super nutritious?
The instructions on the bottle were pretty vague.
Thanks for any advice!!!
John

John, as a general rule animals that consume whole body mammalian prey do not require additional supplements. The liver, stomach contents, muscle and bones of the animal provide complete nutrition. The addition of extra fat soluble vitamins to the diet, which can be toxic in excess, may cause more harm then good. Some breeders may opt to provide extra calcium to heavily producing females but unless you are actually treating for a suspected or diagnosed deficiency I would advise against using the Reptivite.
