AUSTRALIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION 03 October 05 Commercial divers call for croc warning devices
Commercial divers in the Northern Territory are calling for development of crocodile warning devices following the second fatal attack in under one week.
The most recent attack by a saltwater crocodile involved a commercial scuba diver harvesting fish for aquariums.
Aquarium Fish Committee chairman Brian Koennecke says new affordable technology is urgently needed to manage risk.
"There's a raft of suggestions coming forward to try and keep abreast of sensible protective devices that can assist us in," he said.
"Research needs to be carried out in a more sustained way so that we can get more up to date information.
"Cages have been discussed, personal ultra-sound devices, electronic protection devices, extra observers are a range of the topics discussed."
