BORNEO BULLETIN (Brunei Darussalam) 03 October 05 16-foot croc captured (Sha'ari HZ)
A crocodile measuring 16 feet (4.90 metres) in length and 2.5ft (0.76 metres) wide, believed to have eaten many cows, was captured by residents of Kg Birau Tutong yesterday.
Awg Isa bin Hj Layeh, one of the residents, said that he and other villagers had lost many cows from the village area and near Ulu Sungai Sembatang, and that they believed that the cows had been eaten by crocodiles.
Awg Isa and other villagers then laid out large fishing hooks with baits attached in an attempt to catch the 'suspect'.
On the third night Awg Isa saw that a huge crocodile had latched on to one of the fishing hooks. The Penghulu Mukim and the village head were immediately notified of the capture.
Present to oversee the capture was Awg Hj Mohammad Ali, Assistant Tutong District Officer.
