Hog Island Boa!

kingsnaken Oct 03, 2005 02:04 PM

Here is a nice little male that I got from J & S Reptiles. I had trouble getting him to eat at first, but after talking to Joe, it turns out, he eats live hoppers or rat pinks. I was trying to feed him f/t fuzzies. No Problems now. Derek

Cool, I bought a male from the same litter I believe... looks just like yours. Cant complain at all so far had him for 2 weeks and hes awesome tame as a night crawler! Fed him twice both were f/t hoppers first one i had to work a bit, did the dangle with the tongs and he seemed interested but wouldnt take it... warmed it up a bit and he nailed it... second week feeding he hit it right away! so maybe try that, worked for me... but nonetheless awesome snake and is gonna make me a great pet! ENJOY

That's great! Did you you get your from J & S? Post some pics, please. My boy is eating great now. I have a girl from Rio Bravo that I'll breed him to in 3 years hopefully. Derek

I've heard that they are as layed back as regular red tails, but both of mine are very docile. I love them, and I don't know why I never had them before. Here is a closeup pic of my female from Gus at Rio Bravo Reptiles. He has some of the most beautiful Boas I have seen. He is also very helpful and knowledgable.

my hog female is laid back until feeding time, then it's time to look out!!!! i feed in separate tubs, and the second i put her down in the tub it's on!! she'll hit my hand just as soon as anything else... hurts like mad when she gets my fingers and wraps my wrist... fyi this is an '03 girl we're talking about! a little small for her age but still!! owww!

the rest of the time she is an absolute puppy dog! she's wonderful, i completely trust her on my shoulder, head, anywhere she wants to go... as long as it's nowhere near the feeding tub!
