Milksnake Cage Size

Herp-Keeper Oct 03, 2005 05:11 PM

HEyA
I'm most likely going to be getting a milksnake in the next month or two and i just need one more thing.
Can a milk live in a 15 gal? 20 gal?
If not for life, then if purchased at very young age, how long do you think it will take until it outgrows it completely?
Thanks for any input!
I'd appreciate it alot!

Also post pics of your milks if you can, any suggestions on what type i should get? Nothing more than 75$ tops, and not too big, i'd preffer a smaller species. I was thinking about a mexican milk, that good?

I would start a young mexican milk in a 10 gallon, and then put it in a 20 long when it gets to be about 18-20 inches. Remember to get the 10 gallon tank 10$ at walmart, screen lid 10-15$ at pet store, heat pad 15-20$ at a pet store. Thermostat 20-25$ for a cheap one. You'll also need substrate, water bowl, hides at cool end and warm end. There is alway more cost than just the snake. Some of the stuff you can get mail order, but you have to search around in the kingsnake.com classifieds. You should be able to get a nice snake for under a 100$ at a reptile show. Depending where you live, there are plenty of shows around the country. In addition to the price of the snake, the supplies will cost 100$. It is worth saving up and doing it right. Also, remember if you mail order a snake, that will be between 35-50$ for shipping. I am not an expert, but these are the things I would get to take care of an animal properly. Hope this helps. HEY
Thanks alot for the reply.
And yeah, i'm well aware of the costs. I've owned more than 10 reptiles in my 8 or so years of owning them, snice i was about 6. So I know what's involved lol. It's funny reading what people think of you not knowing the experience/ non - experience you have. It could be a little awkward. But yeah i'm well aware of what's needed. Plus, i have so many extra materials all i'll really need is the cage. I got everything else. Many of them infact.
So thanks again!
I appreciate the reply.

No problem. You should be able to find something good at a reptile show for a fair price. Post pics when you get one. Derek

i have a tangerine dream honduran milk. got him at a show for $85 if i remember right. he is over 2 years old now and probably closed to 3 foot in length. he was very flighty when little but has calmed down considerable. i first had him in a 10 but now he is in a 20 gallon long tank. he is in shedding mode right now but this is a photo of him from a few months ago.
