Chamaeleo T. Cristatus (Crested Chameleon)....

DRep Oct 03, 2005 05:31 PM

Hello. I guess this question applies to more experienced keepers/breeders, but does anyone know how often/if Chamaeleo T. Cristatus is ever available? I'm not necessarily looking to get them, but was recently reading about this species and found them very interesting, so I was just curious. I know they are supposedly very difficult to keep, so I'd assume any that are available are most likely WC. Have any of you (Chris Anderson, Eric Adrignola, anyone else) kept this species before? How were they as captives? Thanks very much

This species is almost exclusively available as WC and if they were CB, whoever was selling them would make a big deal about it as it is so extremely rare. They tend to come in for a 6 month period starting now every year in limited number. They're a very shy species that should be exposed to the most minimal amount of external activity as possible and should really only be considered by advanced keepers.

Ed and Liddy Kammer have bred them at least once, only a year
or so ago. I had considered getting some babies when they were
for sale. Definatly contact them, see if they're still working with
them.
