would it be ok to house a 4-5 inch map turtle in a 10 gallon? not permanently but 4-5 inches isn't that big... enough room to swim.

I've read that the tank should be about 5x the length of the turtle. A 10 gal seems a bit small for a 4-5 inch turtle. My turt is about 3 inches in a 10 gal and I am already planning to upgrade. I'd say a 20 gal long if not bigger.
well 4-5 would be full grown and i haven't gotten it yet but i know it's pretty young probably 3. it's only temporary...
