im no expert but i doubt that its legal.they get up and sometimes over 20 feet long. they live mainly in australia and those aussies dont want any of there wildlife exported.
if you do get one please post pics. ive only seen people here with caimans and sometimes alligators(which i doubt are legal).
I'm pretty sure you can have alligators if you have a permit. I know in PA you can have one with nothing at all. i bought my first caiman in a PA petstore like it was a hamster. There's no law regarding them there. But in NY you need permits. And they dont sell them in pet stores. So it all depends on where you live which is totally moronic. These laws deserve no respect they are a joke. were all americans were all equal. hey man if you want something go out and buy it. dont let some elected pig in a suit tell you what to do based on where you live.
Cant help you out with where to get one, but I thought I may just add that salties live outside of Australia and probably can be sold here legally, whether or not that requires a permit or something, I have no idea.

You can buy them legally, but you may need a permit depending on where you live. Check out Hank Molt's Global Herp (they have a link on the home page of kingsnake.com). I think I saw some salties there for sale. Let me know if you get one. I own one, and I live in Florida. I also own a Morelets and a couple of gators. All legal. Hope this helps.
If they are not available in the US, they could be imported from PNG or Indonesia, where they are CITES II; everywhere else but Australia (Australia does not export) they are CITES I. In Thailand, they have a cross species (C. porosus X C. siamensis) which reaches up to 6m and unfortunately with the mean temperment. Since it is a cross, it is not a valid species and therefore not under the protection of CITES. They sell here for about $75. Sorry, but I do not know any exporters here.
