Weird Scales

BoidBoy77 Oct 03, 2005 08:03 PM

My brb has a weird patch of scales. The scales look dry, and they curl up just a little bit. They are also duller than the rest of her scales. Shes about ready to shed, so i'll see if it goes away, but i've noticed it for quite awhile. Keep in mind that its just a small patch of scales. I just wonder if its something that i need to take care of or just something thats not a big deal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Boidboy,
....One of the more common causes of patches of dried out looking scales is having a piece of skin scraped off too early in the shed cycle. This usually happens a few days before the snake is ready to shed. The old skin is very fragile and it can easily be scratched off. The skin underneath is tender and it dries out and leaves an area of curled dry scales until the next shed is complete.

Thank you so much Jeff. And actually, I do recall her body scraping against a piece of wood in her cage when I was taking her out to soak her during her last shed cycle. I can rest at ease now. Thanks again
