I like to have a low wattage light to keep the air temps up a bit. If the leo has plenty of hides then the light shouldn't bother it at all. Instead it'll probably give the leo a nice day/night cycle.

As long as she gets the heat she needs to digest her food she should be fine. I have a friend who just uses a heat pad, and his gecko is huge, like 11 inches. another idea is those heat emitters? i dont know much about them but they dont give off any light, but they are a little expensive, like 50$.

If you have a heat pad, there is no need for a heat lamp. He said the gecko seems to be pretty light sensitive, so why stress her?

I'm keeping over 100 geckos right now, and a decent collection of ball pythons, none of them have heat lamps, and they all do great.

Also, heat lamps are the easiest way to overheat a small enclosure.

Sometimes the room you keep the tank in can be pretty cool...I keep my leos in a playroom that often drops down past 70 degrees so a heat lamp keeps it up past 70. I only mentioned it as supplemental heat if the room temp is too cool.
