Hey All,
I'm moving some sub-adults into tubs and was wondering how those that use them heat 'em. I was thinking about top-down heat after cutting out in inset on the top and screening it. I'm curious as to other methods.
Thanks,
Bill

I cut out a piece of the top, put glass from a picture frame over it and use a heat emitter. I put some fiberglass screen door material inside to keep the snake from accidently contacting the glass and getting burned. Works great. I got one of those new Zoo Med safety heat emitters. Heats the smaller enclosure perfectly, and the hood can sit directly on the glass unlike my other emitter which I needed to leave suspended slightly to keep from overheating the emitter.

Thanks. While rerofitting the tubs I put one of the Scrubs in with my nastiest Chondro. The Scrubs demeanor is evident, the Chondro has the same intentions, she is just more stealthy!

Another easy way to do it, is just go pick up a heating pad (like you would use for your back). I use those and they work great. I take the pad out, and rest it on the coverings it comes in, then place half the tub on the pad. Depending on room temp, the low or medium setting should be good for a upper 70's cold side and mid 80's hot side. either keep damp bedding or put a water dish on the side with the pad and humidity will stay great. You can kinda see the pad and how it would be set up from this pic.

I didn't know that heating pads are safe for constant use like that. I think they print a warning on the pad about it. I would feel much more comfortable with a pad or heat source that is designed to be on 24/7.

I use a rack setup with the tubs placed so that the longest side is visible, malkng the rack 3' long and 2' deep. I use 11" heat tape 2' long under a third of the tub, for each tub. I also have an 11' strip running down the back of the rack as well, same side as the under tub tape, this offers me a little extra heating should the under tub tape be insufficient. This is all run off of a ranco thermostat. works for me. Clint
